ASA Regional Education Centre

In October 2005 Benfield School Sports College entered into an innovative partnership with the ASA to host the North East Regional Education Centre. Our Regional Education Officer, Fiorna Cairns Smith, is working with other key partners throughout the Region to develop the wider aspects of the Coach Education programme for all swimming teachers and coaches. Part of the partnership agreement supported the bid to Sport England/ASA’s Community Club Development Programme for £264,000 to enable the recent refurbishment of the school pool. This work has significantly upgraded the changing rooms and other ‘domestic’ parts of the pool making it a modern and pleasant place to be.

In addition, an ongoing series of courses and CPD events will be held at Benfield whilst others will be organised by the REO and delivered throughout the North East Region in conjunction with the REO for Yorkshire. CPD seminars help to keep teachers and coaches up to date with their knowledge and gain points towards the ASA Teachers/Coaches and ASA Tutors Licence which were implemented earlier in 2006.
