BENFIELD EXCELLING STUDENTS TEAM

The B.E.S.T. scheme involves identifying pupils with talent or potential in football and offering them extra specialist training before, during and after school. This scheme is a great way of providing talented players with the correct quality and quantity to ensure they reach their full potential.

Since September there has been 14 new players added to the BEST scheme for football. This now takes the total number of pupils on the BEST scheme for football to 40 players. All players continue to make good progress highlighted by the fact that we currently have 8 players from the BEST scheme representing the city squads this season.

BEST MATCHES

The BEST scheme footballers have so far played two matches. These friendly games took place in January against squads from Newcastle Football Development Scheme’s advanced squads. This was a chance for the players on the BEST scheme to test themselves against other players of a similar standard. These games were an excellent chance for the players of the BEST scheme to play in a relaxed environment with little pressure on the result of the game and more emphasis being placed on the way the game was played.

The team played really well, with year 7’s & 8’s managing to win 6 – 4, and the team of year 8’s & 9’s being defeated 3 – 2. Plans are already in place to play further games in the future.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS

All of the school teams have made a positive start to the season. Again high hopes are for the Year 9 school team who have enjoyed a good start to the season already notching up a league, city and county cup victory. The Year 7 team is also expected to do well and they too have enjoyed a good start to the season recording 3 victories in the league along with progress in the county cup.

In conjunction with Newcastle Football Development Scheme, we can now offer football opportunities to all age groups from 5 yrs to adults. Some of the activities we provide/offer are listed below, Nursery coaching, Mini-Soccer, Weekly coaching centers, Girls only coaching, Goalkeeping courses, Disability football, Coach education, Advanced level coaching for talented, players, Ethnic and refugee groups and football parties.
