About Benfield Sports College

Our Team
Our Mission

Benfield School was granted Specialist Sports College status in 1997. We are committed to raising standards of teaching and learning across the whole school via the medium of sport. The way we work at Benfield Sports College fully commits us to the mission statement for all Specialist Sports Colleges, which is:

"Sports Colleges will raise standards of achievement in PE and sport for all their students across the ability range.

They will be regional focal points for excellence in PE and community sport, extending links between families of schools, sports bodies and communities, sharing resources and developing and spreading good practice, helping to provide a structure through which young people can progress to careers in sport and PE.

Sports Colleges will increase participation in PE and sport for pre and post 16 year olds and develop the potential of talented performers."

At Benfield, we provide sporting opportunities for pupils of all abilities, from extra-curricular clubs, sporting festivals, outdoor residential weekends and sports development days, to our highly prestigious BEST scheme.

The BEST (Benfield Excelling Student Team) scheme caters for young people with extremely high potential in Badminton, Gymnastics, Trampoline, Cricket, Basketball, Dance and Swimming as well as Music. Every pupil on the BEST scheme receives individualised specialist coaching within their sport, both before and after-school and during curriculum time. The pupils also get the opportunity to work with a nutritionist and a sports psychologist as we attempt to develop their potential to the fullest.

We have an exceptional team of Physical Education teachers and coaches here at Benfield School. At Key Stage 4 we currently offer GCSE in Physical Education and BTEC First Diploma and Certificate. The Leadership qualifications that we offer at Key Stage 4 are the National Governing Bodies Leader Awards as well as Level 1 Sports Leaders. We have AS/A2 in Physical Education at post 16 along with Sports Leaders Level 2 and 3 and the BTEC National Award and Certificate.

We have our highly successful Sports Leadership Academy for Post 16 students. This allows students to train to become Sports Coaches. They study for their Level 2 and 3 Sports Leaders Award as well as sport specific qualifications in their chosen sport. Every student in the Academy also gets a CRB check, a First Aid qualification and a guaranteed placement at either a Primary School or local sports club.

We pride ourselves on being innovative and helping our pupils to fulfil their potential to allow them to live the dream. Success is at the heart of everything we do.
